About me

I’m a proud husband and father of four and know firsthand the issues and values of working families. I completed my education taking evening classes and eventually co-owned Porter and Chester Institute for over 30 years. In that time, we added hundreds of employees and trained thousands for skilled jobs. We used a simple yet successful approach: listen to what businesses need and train people to meet their needs. I now own a small business called Computer Salvage and Repair and a charter fishing business called Affordable Family Charters. I know how to grow businesses and create jobs.

 

I believe in using those business skills to help my community. As Vice Chair of the East Granby Board of Education, I helped introduce zero-based budgeting, which led to our lowest budget in years. It passed on the first referendum for the first time in many years. Lessons learned in business apply to government!

 

My 3-Point Focus When Elected

 

• Business: Government needs to help business grow, not create roadblocks. If you want to amuse business owners, tell them you're from the government and you're there to help them. We need to make this statement a reality. In return, businesses must support the community and be good neighbors.

• Education: My education plan is concise: give school districts a break. The state needs a moratorium on unnecessary, expensive initiatives and unfunded mandates so schools can do what they do best: teach our children. Educators, administrators, parents and residents have to work together. As the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child.”

• Families: Having raised four children, I know the pressures of tight budgets. Family values and interests should be a focal part of the legislature's work-and not just young families. Senior interests are very important. Today, many seniors are helping their children's families and conversely, families are helping their senior parents.

 

I take the opportunity of representing you seriously and want to be your State Representative. I believe strong families and strong businesses make strong communities. My background is included in this letter. I want to use my experience to help you. Between now and Election Day I want to listen to your concerns and earn your support.
